To participate in Transitsearch, you need a telescope with an accurate clock drive, a CCD camera, and appropriate computer software. We've written a paper that gives an overview of the issues that arise in the detection of known transits with small telescopes. This paper is available for download here.
The American Association of Variable Star Observers maintains a variety of very useful resources for those interested in getting started in high-precision photometry.
Bruce Gary is an experienced observer of transiting extrasolar planets, and is a member of the XO network, which has had made several discoveries of new transiting planets (see e.g. here). Bruce has written a book, Exoplanet Observing for Amateurs which he's made available for free in .pdf form.
For active observers, we maintain a low-traffic mailing list. This list provides a forum for discussion of active transitsearch campaigns.
